With our research partner Tiller Research, we conducted our bi-annual survey earlier this year, and undertook a number of semi-structured interviews with a breadth of VCSE organisations (size, delivery type) from across Warwickshire and Solihull.

Here are some crucial facts and figures:

  • We estimate that there has been a small decrease in organisations, to 13,000 since our last report in 2021
  • The average annual economic value of volunteering £892.7m
  • 75% of organisations consider themselves to be micro or small (up to £10k pa & £10-£100k pa respectively); this is largely reflective of the organisation profile that CAVA works with
  • 32% of organisations have paid staff
  • 89% of organisations operate with less than 50 volunteers; a third have smaller teams of between 11-25 volunteers
  • 70% have seen an increase in their annual expenditure
  • 27% of organisations noted financial pressures for their beneficiaries
  • 22% of organisations had felt an increase in demand for their services
  • There is a strong trend around the need for improved partnership working and an even greater voice for the Sector in strategic forums.

As with all previous State of the Sector reports, this reports demonstrates the need and value of the VCSE Sector to address, prevent and improve outcomes for our diverse communities across Warwickshire and Solihull.

Underpinning all of this report is the need to continue and increase how all partners work together more effectively. CAVA has created its own strategic plan, and will build on this with an action plan that aims to address, monitor and evaluate progress on some of the key highlights and issues raised in this report. We will also work with VCSE and public sector colleagues to support them to implement the recommendations to build a more equal, resilient and responsive VCSE Sector.
