Regeneration Zone
Providing access to opportunities, training and employment are the key aims of Regeneration Zones. The Regional Development Agency, Advantage West Midlands (AWM), have dedicated 70% of its resources to the implementation and delivery of Regeneration Zones, of which there are 6 in the West Midlands; all encompass areas of concentrated need – social deprivation and high unemployment – but also substantial opportunity.
Coventry & Nuneaton Regeneration Zone
The Coventry and Nuneaton Regeneration Zone (CNRZ) covers the urbanised and central areas of north and east Coventry and Nuneaton and Bedworth; over 200,000 people live in this area. Locally Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Partnership (CSWP) manage this.
Projects that have benefited from support from the CNRZ include:
Nuneaton & Bedworth CVS – 2 year post of ‘Community Development Worker’
Pride in Camp Hill – a £14m regeneration scheme in one of the most deprived wards in the country
Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods – a Warwickshire County Council project that supports community groups for regional economic benefit
Opportunities Centre – offers vocational training to people across the CNRZ
Eliot Park Innovation Centre – a £7m development for 46 small businesses
The Structure
Initially 4 ‘Theme Groups’ were responsible for the development of projects and driving forward the CNRZ. These were: Property & Development, Business Needs & Services, Regenerating Communities, Learning & Skills.
From 2005 it has been decided that the themes must be more integrated, therefore 5 ‘Strategic Programme Areas’ have been created, 3 are geographically based and two are zone-wide themes:
Regenerating Nuneaton & Bedworth
Regenerating North & East Coventry
Linking Coventry City Centre & Neighbourhoods
Promoting Entrepreneurship
Cluster Development
Nuneaton & Bedworth CVS have representation at all levels of the CNRZ and campaign for community issues; we are dedicated to promoting opportunities within the Zone to enable voluntary and community groups to benefit and develop.
