Summer Activities for Young People in North Warwickshire
This summer young people aged 11 to 19 in Hurley, Wood End and Piccadilly will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities. These include mixed marital arts, street dancing, graffiti art, sports, BBQ, trips, and a residential in Wales.
A huge part of the summer programme will encompass an amazing music project funded by national charity “Youth Music”. The workshops will give the young people the opportunity to work with music industry professionals who will be running workshops in singing, song writing, music production, filming and event management. The project is being led by independent record label “Baker Lane Records”, local singer songwriter “Vix” (former lead singer of “Fuzzbox”) and independent film company “Doll House Pictures”.
The aim is to increase young people’s knowledge of the music industry and to give them the skills and confidence to write original music, make a music video and put on a professional performance. The project has teamed up with Birmingham’s O2 Academy whereby the young people will have the chance to perform there at the end of the summer. As a bonus, those who take part in the project will get to see singer “Dappy” live in concert and achieve an Arts Award accreditation.
Kirsty Lowrie, Rural Youth Development Officer for the Three Villages said, “We have a great summer lined up for the young people with a varied menu of activities that will suit all interests. In particular the music project is an amazing, unique opportunity for the young people in North Warwickshire. Music is an excellent tool for engaging with young people and they will learn a host of new skills that will stay with them throughout their lives”.
The summer activities commence on Monday 23rd July 2-4pm with a mixed Martial Arts session at Wood End Village Hall. For more information on the activities, please contact Kirsty on 01827 718080 / 07778 218525 or by emailing mailto:email@example.com
The project is funded by the North Warwickshire LEADER programme which is supported by DEFRA, EU and RDPE. Warwickshire CAVA has helped put together the proposal and are managing the staff employed by the project on behalf of the Three Village’s Partnership.
