General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will soon be here! On the 25th of May the new regulation will kick in and it will affect everyone. Big or small, we all have to comply. 

This interactive workshop will give participants an understanding of the impact of the GDPR on you and your organisation.

Voluntary and Community Sector Trustees/Directors/Managers/People involved with collecting data

Aims:
It will show you how to plan in readiness for the implantation date of 25 May 2018 and most importantly come together with likeminded people who are trying to navigate this complex issue.

GDPR will be the biggest change in data protection in 20 years, and this workshop will give you an opportunity to ask an expert in the field any questions and concerns you may have with regards to this legislation.

The workshop will be interactive with participants gaining knowledge through exercises and case studies to help further your understanding.

  • Overview of the law as it stands and how to collect data in a fair and lawful manner
  • Introduction of the GDPR and how it changes the face of data privacy
  • The 6 Principles in practice
  • People’s rights
  • Enforcement and fines - Breach management in the current framework and enforcement
  • Main changes and impact
  • How to put these into practice “health check”

Paula Tighe from Wright Hassall LLP

Paula Tighe has a wealth of data privacy, protection and safeguarding experience gained within the public and private sector.

Paula has over 30 years of delivering strategic and operational front line client led services. She has helped many organisations bring about positive changes at all levels in her field of expertise.
Paula was the first data privacy expert to create a housing, education and now sport data protection system and is the only person working in Wright Hassall as a non lawyer who is now a Partner of Risk and Regulation. Paula forges key links in collaboration and was pivotal in establishing Wright Hassall as the only legal firm to engage the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) who are a key part in the data action network.
