WDC Community Engagement Strategy Consultation June 2009
Working Together Improving Local Communities
Following the Empowerment White Paper ‘Communities in Control: Real People, Real Power’, Warwick District Council has developed a Community Engagement Strategy which seeks to address the need to involve and engage local people in local decision making processes.
The Warwick Partnership is leading on the development of the Strategy, and has voluntary and community sector representation on its Executive group through Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action.
The Community Engagement Strategy is about how as a Partnership, WDC can support local people to be more involved in decisions to help improve services and local communities.
WDC recognise the significant role that VCS organisations have to play in making sure that they use the right approaches to engaging local residents and communities of interest. We also know that they need to pay specific attention to how they engage those who are vulnerable, or who may be invisible from decision making processes.
WDC welcome and are seeking your feedback on the draft Community Engagement Strategy.
This is not a final document, and WDC are seeking views as to the best use of resources to make sure that engagement is seen as a policy priority across the District, rather than the activity of a few in one department or organisation.
Whilst the strategy itself is draft, the structures for making sure WDC can engage local people are already underway, such as the seven Community Forums.
To help make sure that your feedback can be used most effectively, WDC have designed a feedback template. So it’s over to you. To respond to this consultation request completing the template and email to Bernadette.allen@warwickdc.gov.uk or by post to Bernadette Allen, Warwick District Council, Riverside House, Leamington Spa, CV32 by no later than 5pm 24th July 2009.
Responses received after this time will not be in time to be collated for the deadline of the beginning of August.
