Young Volunteers Required For Romeo & Juliet Production

Medicine Man Theatre Company needs young people who are interested in theatre, backstage and performance for their adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

UK Youth has been selected as charity partner by Medicine Man who will be running a musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, in a fresh perspective to the tragic love story.  There will be a press and charity gala evening in support of UK youth and the production on 22nd January 2009 at New Players theatre.  Whilst the production will retain the original text and time period, the play will also take audiences on a journey which will incorporate contemporary urban black and ethnic music such as Hip Hop and R 'n' B and jazz, street and break dance, classic emblems for today's youth.

The projects aim is to raise awareness and encourage debate on these important issues, whilst highlighting as Shakespeare does in the play, the importance of peaceful resolution.  The project will have a West End opening at the New Players Theatre in Charing Cross during the last two weeks of January 2009.  A mini tour is hoped to follow and the Bloomsbury Theatre will be showing the production in the first week of April.  Any young people who are interested need to contact Julia Sako on 07737 872 346 or email juliasako@aol.co.uk

For further information on the production and UK Youth’s involvement, please email Bethany at UK Youth - communications@ukyouth.org
