Arts Uplift CIC gets funding boost for Music, Reminiscence and Dementia project

Arts Uplift CIC have been given a £10k funding boost to take their Suitcase Stories Warwickshire project to Alcester and Kenilworth libraries with contributions from South Warwickshire CCG and Worcestershire County Council.

Building on the success of the original Suitcase Stories project established with Museums Worcestershire the 10 weeks project will enable adults living with dementia and their carers to relive memories from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70’s using the art of music and reminiscence. These sessions will be in community libraries and local artists Orchestra of the Swan and Warwickshire Reminiscence Action Project will be among the people getting involved.

The participants each time will hold, touch, smell and feel the handling objects such as carbolic soap and old pictures from the Royal family from WRAP’s collections to inspire songs for the musicians to perform. By bringing together museum objects for reminiscence, and the arts for creative expression, Arts Uplift CIC is aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of Warwickshire residents living with dementia and their carers or family members.

The reminiscence and music workshops will take place on a Thursday for 10 weeks from 2nd May to 18th July. Alcester library will be from 10.30am to 12.30pm and Kenilworth library will be from 2.00pm - 4.00pm. There is no charge for the sessions also. Places are limited so book early.

If you would like to volunteer for any of the sessions or for more information and to book contact Jenny Davis, Project manager by emailing jenny@artsuplift.co.uk or 07946 585978 and sign up to Arts Uplift’s newsletter on www.artsuplift.co.uk.
