Volunteering Opportunity: Garden Mentor

Do you have an interest in gardening? Maybe you already own an allotment? Grandmentors is looking for a green-fingered mentor!

Branching off our current Grandmentors project, Grandmentors are looking for someone to start up and look after an allotment as part of the council's leaving care team. You will be supporting a small team of 14-24 year olds who are asylum and young care leavers. All will have an interest in gardening/allotments and will also be in the middle of transitioning into independent living. 

As a mentor, you will be supporting them by: 

  • Helping them to plan and create an allotment 

  • Introduce young people to the power of plants/fruits/veg

  • Encourage positive social action

  • Share your knowledge and experiences with young people

  • Provide informal support by listening to their concerns and praising achievements. 

Skills required: 

  • Friendly and approachable

  • Patience

  • Non-judgemental

  • Interest in looking after gardens/allotments

  • Understanding of growing plants/fruits/veg

  • Solution-focused.

This role will be based in Warwick, and will require a commitment of 1-2 hours per week for 6-12 months.

Full safeguarding training and enhanced DBS check will be carried out.
