Volunteering Stories | Keeping my mental health on track through volunteering

Michelle joined Growbaby Nuneaton as a volunteer, taking on the vital role of sorting clothing and equipment to support families and health professionals visiting Manor Court Baptist Church. However, her journey to volunteering was more than just a step into community service – it was a personal step toward improving her mental health and well-being.

Michelle was initially a customer at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and was struggling with her mental health. Seeking a way to regain confidence and purpose, she attended a volunteer drop-in session at Nuneaton Job Centre, where she met Tina Wragg, the Volunteering Coordinator from CAVA. They discussed the opportunities available in her local area, and Michelle decided to register on the Simply Connect volunteering portal to explore roles that could support her well-being.

Since joining Growbaby Nuneaton, Michelle has been a valued team member. Her friendly nature, kindness, and dedication ensure everything runs smoothly for families in need.

Her ability to engage with visitors has been invaluable, creating a welcoming and supportive environment. Michelle’s work not only helps others but has also played a significant role in her own journey of personal growth and improved mental health.

Reflecting on her experience, Michelle shares, “Volunteering gives me the chance to make a difference in my community, and I love seeing the smiles on the families’ faces when they find what they need.”

Michelle’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of volunteering – not only in supporting communities but in empowering individuals to regain confidence, purpose, and well-being. We are incredibly proud to have her as part of the Growbaby team.
