Highlights from the 2025 Rugby Volunteer Recognition Event.
A wonderful evening of celebration took place at Benn Hall as volunteers from across Rugby borough were honoured at the Rugby Volunteer Recognition Event, hosted by Warwickshire and Solihull Community and Voluntary Action (CAVA).
The event brought together local heroes – individuals and groups who dedicate their time and passion to making a difference in their communities.
Hosted by Tracy Southam, Area Manager for Warwickshire, the evening recognised contributions in categories including environmental action, arts and creativity, health and wellbeing, youth support, community cohesion and more.
“These volunteers are the backbone of our communities – giving so much, often without seeking any recognition. This evening is about taking the time to say thank you.”
– Tracy Southam, CAVA
Special Guests
The ceremony was joined by honoured guests including Karen Lynch, High Sheriff of Warwickshire, and Clare Sawdon, Deputy Lieutenant of Warwickshire and committee member for the King’s Award for Volunteering. Both shared words of thanks and admiration for the power of community service.

Outstanding Contribution Award
The evening ended with a very special moment — a heartfelt Outstanding Contribution Award for Phillip Freeman, who has volunteered across five community groups in Dunchurch for over 30 years.
To top it off, Phillip was also named in the King’s Birthday Honours List, recognising his lifelong dedication to community service. A standing ovation marked this proud surprise moment.
A Final Thank You
The event was made possible thanks to the support of Warwickshire County Council, Rugby Borough Council, Sharp Business Systems UK, and the Rugby and Hinckley Building Society.
Special thanks were given to Amy from the CAVA team for coordinating the event, and to the staff at Benn Hall for their warm hospitality.
“To every person recognised tonight, and to the many more who volunteer behind the scenes every day – thank you. Your commitment uplifts lives, strengthens communities and shows that compassion and kindness are alive and well across Rugby Borough.”
— Karen Winchcombe, CEO, CAVA
